I believe the artifacts I have listed below, cover each Texas standard and show my dedication towards being an educator. Many of the artifacts are future lesson plans I hope to implement in my future classrooms and show my multicultural outlook on teaching the arts. It is very important for me to give my students a well-rounded educational experience where they can creatively express themselves while also facing complex topics like societal issues.

Art for a Change

In my lesson plan, Art for a Change, students are directed to create a digital poster as an activist for a current social problem. This aligns with the 2.1C portion of the Learner standard as it pushes students to do online research for current social problems that are occurring in society today. 

Judge at Mainstreet Arts Festival

Over the past 2 years, I have participated as a Judge for the Mainstreet Arts Festival. My fellow judges and I would score a select few artworks that nearby middle school and high school students created. I believe this falls under the 2.1B portion of the Learner standard as I hope to continue to participate in this local learning network.

Art for a Change

I believe my Art for a Change lesson plan applies to the Leader standard, specifically the 2.2C portion, as I will be teaching my students how to use various digital platforms to create their digital posters. Many students only have knowledge of Powerpoint applications and it is important to me that they receive exposure to new outlets like Canva.

Art for a Change

My lesson plan, Art for a Change, aligns with the Citizen standard as I will be teaching my students how to safely research their social issue and also foster a classroom community where all opinions can be shared. The specific portions of the standard that my lesson plan targets is 2.3A Create Positive Experiences and 2.3C Model Safe, Legal, Ethical Practices.

6-Week Curriculum

I believe my 6-week curriculum for K-5th grade aligns with the Collaborator standard as it covers how I plan to teach my future students in a multicultural way. Each week covers a new region around the world that my students would learn about and then create a piece of artwork inspired by that regions artists. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.4D Demonstrate Cultural Competency.

Art for a Change

I believe my Art for a Change lesson plan also follows the Collaborator standard as I plan to have my students use new platforms that they haven't used before. I will also be doing on-going research as well to look for new up-to-date digital platforms that the students and I can learn from together. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.4B Learn Alongside Students

Designer

Craft and Technique Lesson Plan

My Craft and Technique Lesson Plan Powerpoint aligns with the Designer standard as it will be displayed for my students to view at the beginning of the lesson. I plan to display a PowerPoint for every lesson with my students to help maximize the amount of digital learning taking place. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.5B Design Authentic Learning Activites.

In my Painting 1 course I was taught how to paint on a larger scale in a quick manner and created this artwork called, Runaway. My professor, Adam Fung, taught us that the use of a projector can help speed up the process of drawing general human forms and horizon lines in the beginning stages of creating a painting. I plan to use the projector technique with my future high school students as well when we cover large-scale oil painting and broaden their knowledge of art making. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.5 Accomodate Learner Differences

I believe my Artist as a Point of Origin: Kehinde Wiley Lesson Plan aligns with the Facilitator standard as it highlights the importance for students to think of their personal values and how to portray them visually. It also details that during classroom critique the students must 'evaluate' themselves in a way where they address their successes and faults throughout their art-making process. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.6A Foster Student Ownership of Learning

I believe my Art for a Change Lesson Plan aligns with the Facilitator standard as it pushes students to embrace their creativity when choosing what specific imagery they will add to their digital poster. It also helps facilitate a classroom setting where the students can express their viewpoints on current issues. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.6D Model and Nurture Creativity.

Craft and Technique Lesson Plan

I believe my Craft and Technique Lesson Plan aligns with the Analyst standard as the students will be submitting an online journal entry for the week describing what they learned from their Paper Mache assignment. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 2.7B Use Tech to Create Assignments. 

I will also be implementing the specific portion of the Analyst standard, 2.7C into my classroom as I believe it is vital to keep families involved in their child's academic progress. It is my goal to have regular meetings with the parents of my students where we go over the students' artworks and writing pieces and see where they fall in their progress and what I can do as an educator to ensure the students' success.

The portion of the standard that this follows is 1B, Teachers design developmentally appropriate, standards-driven lessons that reflect evidence-based best practices.

My lesson plan, Artist as a Point of Origin: Kehinde Wiley, aligns with the Knowledge of Student and Student Learning standard as it pushes students to express their emotions and things that are important to them in a visual manner. The specific portion of the standard that I believe it follows is A(i), Teachers purposefully utilize learners' individual strengths as a basis for academic and social-emotional growth.

I believe my 6-Week Curriculum for K-5th Grade shows alignment with the Knowledge and Expertise standard. It specifically lists a lesson plan that follows the TEKS standards on what their specific age group should be learning. The portion of the standard that this follows is 3A, Teachers understand the major concepts, key themes, multiple perspectives, assumptions, process of inquiry, structure, and real-world applications of their grade-level and content areas.

I believe my Art for a Change Lesson Plan aligns with the Learning Environment standard as it specifically details the rules/classroom etiquette for the topics we will be discussing. A main portion of the rules are to create an environment where the students feel safe and welcome to express themselves. The portion of the standard that this follows is 4A(ii), Teachers maintain and facilitate respectful, supportive, positive, and productive interactions with and among students.

Professional Practices and Responsibilities

I am currently a member of the Texas Art Education Association and I believe this aligns with the Professional Practices and Responsibilities standard as being a part of this association gives me multiple avenues to gain more knowledge on lesson planning and Texas law changes. I hope to attend their conferences in the future to broaden my knowledge of being an Art Educator and collaborate with fellow educators as well. The portion of the standard that this follows is 6A (ii), Teachers actively participate in professional learning communities organized to improve instructional practices and student learning

Rubric- Artist as a Point of Origin

I believe one of the Rubrics I made for the Artist as a Point of Origin Lesson Plan aligns with the Data-Driven Practice as it is a formal method of measuring my students' progress. The rubric clearly states the expected outcomes of the project and gives the student a guide to follow while they complete their work. The specific portion of the standard that this follows is 5A, Teachers implement both formal and informal methods of measuring student progress.
